Surdas, the blind Ashta Chhap poet-saint and disciple of Shri Vallabhacharya, wrote 125,000 poems and ascribed the inspiration behind all of his writing to his beloved guru. On his death bed, he sang this poem:
I keep my firm faith in Shri Vallabh’s lotus feet.
Without the light emanating from his toenails, the entire world falls into darkness.
In this age of struggle, there is no practice strong enough to bring me before Him.
Sings Sur, I may be blind in two ways, but I am his priceless servant.
Drdha ina charanana kero bharoso
Drdha ina charanana kero
Shri Vallabha nakha-chandra chhata bina
saba jaga manjha andhero {bharoso..}
Sadhana aur nahin ya kali men
Jaso hota nivero
Sur kaha kahe dvividha andhero
bina moliko chero {bharoso..}
